Minted by the US Mint since 1986, over 130 million American Silver Eagle bullion coins have been sold, making it the world’s best-selling silver coin.

The obverse of the coin features a rendition of the goddess Liberty, based on Adolph A. Weinman’s 1916 “Walking Liberty” half dollar. It is inscribed with “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issue, 2010.

The reverse depicts a single eagle descending with an oak branch, as if adding it to a nest, surrounded by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “1 OZ. FINE SILVER – ONE DOLLAR.”

Official legal tender in the United States with a nominal face value of $1, American Silver Eagles are also eligible for inclusion in US Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs).
